What characteristics does E&S look for in a potential employee?

E&S wants someone who wants to work for them. The future growth of the firm depends on E&S being an outstanding professional organization. Goals are professional satisfaction, a closely-knit and well-compensated staff, quality work and direct client involvement. The principals look for friendly, outgoing, bright, dedicated, hard-working people who will excel with the firm. Self-starters who are ambitious, resourceful and innovative thinkers will advance within the E&S structure.

What about the CPA exam?

All professional staff are expected to pass the CPA examination and gain certification within a reasonable time after joining the firm. Timing may vary for different people. As much assistance as needed is given to staff preparing for the examination. This could mean special arrangements to leave early for weekly classes or time off before the exam to study.

Is there a training program for new employees?

At E&S you will work closely with experienced personnel who will guide, instruct, explain and help you throughout your career. New staff employees also receive informal in-house training that helps you understand procedures, administrative policies and computers.

What is the company’s commitment to developing its people?

  • Training: Once you begin at the firm, you will participate in programs that acquaint you with policies and procedures. Throughout your career with E&S, you will participate in programs and seminars to keep current.
  • Continuing education is a high priority at the firm. Employees are reimbursed for appropriate education.
  • Experience: Staff members will have many opportunities to work closely with principals and benefit from their experience. Your work will be reviewed by the principals and you will get immediate feedback.

What are the opportunities available through a position with Eikill & Schilling Ltd.?

E&S operates in a flexible, less structured environment, so you have a chance to grow as rapidly and as much as your talents and drive permit as long as you maintain the commitment to quality client service. As you progress, you are given the opportunity to handle all the responsibility that you are able to.

Will I have my own desk and work area?

Our seating arrangement is such that you will have your own permanent desk, with a direct phone extension, computer and a private work area.

Does Eikill & Schilling Ltd. provide performance reviews on a periodic basis?

At E&S there is an "open door" policy and everyone is on a first-name basis. This is the best form of coaching and review.

Informal suggestions may be made on how to improve skills or performance. Staff members are welcome and encouraged to discuss these items at any time with principals, mentors, supervisors or any other staff person.

Formal reviews are conducted in June and December every year. Your reviews are always with a principal.  Principals meet in May and November to review every staff member. June reviews are specifically for performance. In December, performance is discussed as well as compensation.

Is it worth taking a semester off for an internship and is there any potential for full-time employment?

The internship program has benefited both E&S and the student interns over the years. It helps the firm get work done during the busy season while providing students who want to enter public accounting with valuable hands-on experience.

The internship is not "gopher" work. Interns do real work for real clients. The responsibilities added to your resume make you more marketable and the internship pays a very competitive salary. While taking an internship may require you to take a semester off, many schools give you college credit hours for the experience.

E&S looks at all interns as potential staff members. The commitment to train and mentor them is strong – it can only benefit the company as well as the individual.

Who do I report to?

Throughout your first couple of years as a member of the E&S team, you will be working with many different staff supervisors on several different types of tax and accounting engagements. You will also likely work for each of the principals at some point during your first couple of years. You will have different individuals to report to for different circumstances, and each staff member is assigned a mentor as a "go to" person.
